VAM For those people having problems installing Mechwarrior3 in Windows XP and/or Windows 2000:
I have developed a method to make Mechwarrior3 work in both Single and Multi-Player without having to run the installer from the Mechwarrior3 CD on either system.
In order to make this method work, you will need an install of Mechwarrior3 on a Windows 9.x or Windows Me system. You need to "move" this install to your C Drive, the path: "C:MicroProseMechWarrior3". If you use a different path this method will NOT work, you will need to manually edit all the registry files to point to the path wanted.

I moved the installation from my Windows 98 box to my Windows XP box through Windows Networking, another solution might be to zip "C:/MicroProse/MechWarrior3" and all its contents, then burn the installation to a CDr. Then Unzip the installation to any C: with Windows 2000 or Windows XP installed. If you require the Mechwarrior3 v1.2 patch to play online then I suggest you install this patch before moving your installation to Windows XP.

Instructions for a successful installation:
1) Please install Mechwarrior3 on a working Operating System with all patches desired for use.
2) Move the installation to Windows XP/2000.
3) Download the following files:
http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw3/patches/mw3.reg http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw3/patches/mw3v12.reg http://www.mektek.net/downloads/mw3/patches/mw3_system_dlls.zip 4) Extract the mw3_system_dlls.zip to your Windows Systems folder, which is usually "C:/WINDOWS/system"
5) Right click on mw3.reg and select "Merge", this merges the Mechwarrior3 Information into your registry allowing Windows to recognize Mechwarrior3 as an installed game.
6) If you've installed the 1.2 patch then right click on mw3v12.reg and select "Merge".
Now you should be able to play Mechwarrior3 in single player and online in Windows XP/2000. Enjoy
